NC Pediatrician Embraces Medical Freedom
Dr. Barrett began asking questions after reconnecting with a friend at their 30-year high school reunion in 2018. This woman, who has now become his wife, had recently resolved some of her own health issues using non-allopathic treatments. She also showed him the documentary, Vaxxed. It was a combination of this, hearing similar stories from parents who had vaccine injured children, and seeing two cases of myocarditis from the Covid shot that made him begin to question his medical approach. After that, he committed himself to hundreds of hours of peer-reviewed research. He told us, “Once you see this, you cannot unsee it.”
With this new understanding he was willing to become more flexible in respect to parents’ wishes regarding vaccination.
Routine vaccination is integral to allopathic pediatric care. However, the clinical trial and approval process of the Covid shot has raised some questions regarding the previously approved childhood vaccines. These were questions to which he needed answers. Pediatricians are front and center regarding administration of these vaccines. Dr. Barrett asked himself the question, "Have I been misled for all these years?"
As the pandemic unfolded, he saw more and more Covid policies that concerned him. The fear mongering, financial conflicts and side effects of the vaccine further alarmed him.
For example, there was an expectation to ask parents if their children had been vaccinated for Covid. Dr. Barrett told us, "Medical professionals are being incentivized to push the Covid shot. Patients are asked whether they want the Covid shot or not, it is documented in the record, a specific code is entered, and the physician receives an extra kickback from the insurance company. For a shot with limited short-term, and no long-term safety data, one might speculate that this is incentivizing."
Additionally, Dr. Barrett had never seen a case of myocarditis in almost thirty years in private practice until the introduction of the Covid shot. Two of his patients were sent to the ER within 7 days following their Covid shot and were diagnosed with myocarditis. A third patient was diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome within 14 days of her second Covid shot.
It became more and more difficult for him to practice medicine and still follow his conscience. After much time in prayer with his wife, they made the decision that he should open his own practice. Starting a new practice would not be easy, but they knew it was the right thing to do.
To provide true informed consent, the model of his new practice is based on direct access and cash pay. He did not want to be complicit with the restrictions of insurance companies. This model allows Dr. Barrett to care for his patients based on their needs and conscience, as opposed to treating them solely based on CDC or Academy of Pediatrics guidelines. Dr. Barrett is dedicated to listening to parents without judgement or persuasion. His model is based on a monthly membership fee that includes unlimited 24/7 access to Dr. Barrett through Telehealth, including calls and texts. Traditional office visits are also included, and house calls are available within a 1.25-hour radius of his office in Denver, NC, with a small additional fee to cover fuel. He also facilitates deep discounts on lab work and many medications that are often less expensive than insurance co-pays.
Dr. Barrett schedules patients with one-hour blocks so he can ensure ample time with each family. This is a stark contrast from the 30-40 patients he previously saw daily. When we spoke with Dr. Barrett, it was obvious he is truly seeking new ways to serve his community by blending his training in allopathic medicine with natural therapies.
Dr. Barrett is still accepting new patients. To learn more about his practice, visit his website atwww.hickorypediatricwellness.com.
